Immerse yourself in an unforgettable adventure on the magical island of Madeira! This journey is perfect for those who want to combine comfortable relaxation with active and thrilling experiences, explore the island's rich culture, admire breathtaking landscapes, and soak in the atmosphere of romance and freedom.
The history of Madeira’s discovery is shrouded in numerous legends and hypotheses. Some historians believe the island was known to the ancient Romans and may have been part of the "Purple Islands" due to the rare dyes extracted from sea mollusks for royal garments. Officially, Madeira was "discovered" by Portuguese sailors in the 15th century.
It all began in 1418 when two captains, João Gonçalves Zarco and Tristão Vaz Teixeira, were caught in a storm off the west coast of Africa and accidentally stumbled upon a small island they named Porto Santo, or "Holy Port." The island became the first step in the archipelago's exploration. In 1419, Portuguese colonists were sent there by order of Prince Henry the Navigator, and soon, a larger landmass was spotted on the horizon.
In June 1420, João Gonçalves Zarco returned to Porto Santo and saw a dark streak in the west resembling a cloud. Surprisingly, it did not move. It was Madeira, a forest-covered island, which gave it its name since "Madeira" means "wood" in Portuguese. Soon after, colonization began, and the island became a key Portuguese colony, playing a crucial role in maritime explorations of the era.
Madeira is a place where nature and humanity live in harmony. Majestic, verdant mountains descend into the azure waters of the Atlantic, while charming towns and villages captivate with their architecture, hospitality, and traditions.

ITINERARY
Day 1
02.11.2025
Our journey to Madeira begins with a flight to Funchal. There are many direct flights from various European cities, so everyone can choose the most convenient option. You will land at Cristiano Ronaldo International Airport (FNC), which is itself one of the island’s iconic landmarks.
After completing all formalities and collecting your luggage, you will independently make your way to the hotel in the center of Funchal (taxi, bus). Along the way, you will get your first glimpse of the picturesque slopes and the Atlantic Ocean, hinting at the unforgettable adventure ahead. The journey to the hotel takes about 20 minutes.
At the hotel, our guide will welcome you, assist with check-in, and answer any questions. After a long flight, you will have the opportunity to rest and regain your strength before the busy days ahead. In the evening, you will enjoy dinner at one of Funchal's cozy restaurants. We have prepared a list of recommendations featuring the most delicious local dishes to make your first dinner on Madeira truly special.
We will end the day with a short briefing in the hotel lobby, where we will discuss the program and answer all your questions.
Day 2
03.11.2025
Our second day on Madeira starts with a delicious breakfast, followed by a visit to the seafront to see the famous statue of Cristiano Ronaldo. This symbol of pride for the islanders stands next to a museum dedicated to the legendary footballer.
We will then stroll through the picturesque streets of Funchal, visiting the historic Santa Maria Street, the first street built on the island. Today, it is known for its unique painted doors, each a true work of art.
We will continue our exploration at the Mercado dos Lavradores, a farmer's market where you can sample a variety of exotic fruits unique to Madeira and learn more about the island’s vibrant trade culture.
After lunch in Funchal’s city center, we will take a cable car ride up to Monte Hill, offering breathtaking views of the city and the ocean. At the summit, we will explore the multi-level Tropical Garden of Monte Palace, home to exotic plants from around the world. The garden also features peacocks and flamingos.
For thrill-seekers, the descent from Monte can be done on toboggans (self-paid)—traditional wicker sleds that race down winding roads at speeds of up to 50 km/h. For those who prefer a slower pace, a return via the funicular or on foot is also possible.
We will conclude the evening with a group dinner at a restaurant. Afterward, you will have free time to enjoy a peaceful walk back to the hotel, soaking in the night-lights of Funchal’s waterfront.
Day 3
04.11.2025
On the third day of our adventure, after breakfast, we will depart the hotel in a comfortable minibus. Bring only essentials—a backpack with items for a day trip—and wear comfortable trekking clothes, as today we’ll embark on an unforgettable hike along one of Madeira's famous levadas. The drive will take about 30 minutes.
Our route will follow Levada dos Moinhos, a 10.5 km circular trail that takes approximately 3.5 hours to complete.
Levadas are unique irrigation channels, over 2,000 kilometers long across the island, including 40 km of tunnels. These channels were built to transport water from the wetter northern regions to the drier southern lands. Levada dos Moinhos will lead us past waterfalls and crystal-clear streams, offering breathtaking views.
After the trek, we will head to a local restaurant for a meal of traditional Madeiran skewers (espetada) and freshly baked "bolo do caco," a crispy garlic bread that perfectly complements the meal.
Next, we will visit the stunning Cabo Girão viewpoint, one of the highest sea cliffs in Europe, standing 580 meters above the Atlantic. The panoramic views are awe-inspiring and perfect for photos.
We will then move on to the fishing village of Câmara de Lobos, a charming spot with colorful boats and a picturesque harbor. Winston Churchill once painted here. We will try the local drink poncha—a traditional cocktail made with rum, honey, and lemon juice—and wander through the narrow streets filled with history.
In the evening, we will return to the hotel. You will have free time to relax or enjoy a swim in the hotel’s pool before bed.
Day 4
05.11.2025
The fourth day of our adventure is entirely dedicated to trekking and Madeira’s natural wonders. After breakfast, we will head to one of the island’s most scenic trails—Levada das 25 Fontes (The Levada of 25 Springs).
This route winds through lush forests with views of the Ribeira da Janela valley. We will follow canals of crystal-clear mountain water. The levada gets its name from the many springs we will encounter along the way. This lush green oasis, with water cascading from the cliffs, is a paradise for nature lovers.
The trail ends at a beautiful waterfall where you can cool off in the refreshing water (bring swimwear if you would like to take a dip). This is a gem for nature enthusiasts and a highlight of the trip.
After the hike, we will return to our bus and head to Calheta Beach, a rare Madeiran beach with golden sand. Here, you will have time to relax and swim in the Atlantic Ocean. It is the perfect spot to unwind and soak up the sun after an active day.
In the evening, we will return to the hotel, where you will have free time to rest and recharge.
Day 5
06.11.2025
After breakfast, we will take our bus to the enchanting Fanal Forest, about an hour’s drive away. This ancient laurel forest envelops visitors in a mystical atmosphere. If the weather is favorable, we may experience the forest shrouded in morning mist, where centuries-old trees emerge from the dense white haze like mythical creatures. It is one of the most captivating places on Madeira and perfect for memorable photos.
After exploring Fanal, we will descend to Porto Moniz, known for its natural lava pools. Formed by cooled lava flows and filled with seawater, these pools are ideal for swimming. Taking a dip in the crystal-clear waters is a refreshing and unique experience.
We will enjoy lunch at a local restaurant, where fresh seafood dishes are a must-try.
Next, we will head to the black sand beach at Seixal, where you will have a chance to relax and enjoy the striking contrast of volcanic sand against the turquoise waters.
After a long but incredibly colorful day, we return to the hotel in Funchal and rest.
Day 6
07.11.2025
After breakfast, we will head to the northern part of the island. Our first stop will be the picturesque village of Santana, famous for its traditional triangular houses with thatched roofs. These brightly colored houses look like illustrations from a storybook. We will stroll through the village, take many photos, and have the chance to purchase seedlings and bulbs of plants that decorate this region.
After our walk, we will enjoy lunch at one of our favorite restaurants with stunning views of the cliffs. Here, we will savor local dishes such as tender octopus, juicy tuna, and potatoes drizzled with olive oil and garlic—a true taste of Portuguese cuisine.
After a delicious meal, we will embark on an exciting walk at Ponta de São Lourenço, the easternmost point of Madeira. This region is renowned for its unique landscapes, contrasting with the lush green mountains and forests typical of the rest of the island. Instead, the cape features rugged rocky shores.
The cliffs of Ponta de São Lourenço consist of ancient volcanic rocks—reddish and black basalt and pumice—that give the landscape its distinctive colors. This place is like a living geology lesson, where each layer of rock tells the story of the volcanic activity that shaped the island.
The trail here is an out-and-back hike of about 6 kilometers. It winds through hills and peaks with breathtaking views. Along the way, you will enjoy magnificent panoramas: crystal-clear ocean waters, sandstone islands, and stunning views of towering cliffs.
Ponta de São Lourenço displays Madeira’s natural beauty in its rawest form. There are no dense forests here, but the wild beauty of the landscape—crying seagulls, crashing waves, and a sense of vastness—makes it feel like the edge of the world. If we are lucky, we might spot rare seabirds such as shearwaters that inhabit this part of the island.
After completing the trail, we will return to our bus and make a short stop at the Cristo Rei Statue before heading back to the hotel to relax.
Day 7
08.11.2025
Our final active day on Madeira begins early in the morning. We will leave before sunrise to visit one of the island’s most breathtaking spots—Pico do Arieiro, the third-highest peak in Madeira at an altitude of 1,818 meters. If the weather cooperates, we will witness an incredible spectacle: the pink sunrise above the clouds.
After marveling at the sunrise, we will begin our hike to Madeira’s highest point, Pico Ruivo, which reaches 1,862 meters. The trail between Pico do Arieiro and Pico Ruivo is one of the most impressive on Madeira. It takes us through high mountains, narrow paths, and steps carved into the rock. Along the way, we will encounter breathtaking views of cliffs, gorges, and the vast expanse of the ocean in the distance.
This hike is not for beginners: it covers 12 km with an elevation gain of about 1,000 meters. It requires good physical fitness as it includes ascents, descents, and narrow sections. Weather in the mountains can change at any moment, so be prepared for wind, potential rain, or intense sun. Despite the challenges, this experience is worth every step—it is one of the island’s most scenic spots.
Reaching the summit of Pico Ruivo, we will celebrate our achievement and take in the views from 1,862 meters above sea level. Our bus will meet us on the other side of the trail, and we will return to the hotel for a well-deserved rest.
In the evening, we will enjoy a farewell dinner, sharing memories, enjoying great company, and reflecting on our unforgettable journey across Madeira.

Day 8
09.11.2025
In the morning, we will have one last breakfast on the island, pack our things, and check out of the hotel. Ahead lies an independent journey to the airport, where we will say goodbye to the enchanting Madeira.
This island, which gave us adventures, stunning landscapes, and a warm atmosphere, will remain in our hearts. If you wish, you can extend your stay on Madeira for a few more days of relaxation. Alternatively, you could continue your journey to mainland Portugal, exploring the historic and cultural treasures of its capital, Lisbon.
