We have been dreaming about this expedition for many years. Scoresby Sound is the largest and longest fjord system in the world (350 kilometers), located in northeastern Greenland in Greenland National Park, the largest national park in the world.

We have been conducting yacht expeditions in Greenland for a long time, and we especially love the east coast, which we continue to explore.
It has everything: incredible glaciers and huge icebergs; majestic mountains; whales swimming around; Inuit people; colorful local villages; crazy fishing; deep fjords, the northern lights, and most importantly, these places are completely unexplored.

There are no crowds of tourists, ships, or yachts in East Greenland. Here, we will be almost completely alone amid the incredible splendor of Greenland in summer. And right now, that is priceless ;) There are very few places left on Earth that are so rarely visited.

ITINERARY

Day 1
(20.08)

Flight from Reykjavik to Constable Pynt.
We arrive in East Greenland at the only airport in the northeast of the island, Constable Pynt. Meet the crew at the airport, who will take you on an organized transfer to the yacht.

image.png

Accommodation in cabins. Introduction to the boat and yacht crew. Briefing from the captain on rules of conduct on board, safety procedures, instructions on using yacht toilets, etc.

Lunch on the yacht. We head out to open water. We set course for the east, where the only settlement in this region of East Greenland, Ittoqqortoormiit, is located.

Towards evening, we arrive at Itkokkortormiut Bay. We settle down for the night. We hold a traditional evening of introductions and hand out expedition T-shirts and badges.

Day 2
(21.08)

The town of Ittoqqortoormiit is the only permanent settlement in this remote area. The name of this town translates as “those who live in big houses.”

image.png

Here we rest, walk around the town, and stock up on provisions, water, and fuel as needed.

The town has a population of about 490 people. Most of them are the authentic population of Greenland – the Inuit. The Inuit are an Eskimo people, the indigenous population of the island of Greenland. Traditional occupations for the Inuit include hunting sea animals and bears, and fishing. There is a strong Danish influence on the culture, but the local population tries to preserve their myths and legends.

In the settlement of Ittoqqortoormiit itself, there are many things that are unusual and unfamiliar to us. There is an interesting museum of local history where you can learn about the life of the Inuit. Afterwards, we will take a walk around the neighborhood and be sure to visit the Einar Mikkelsen Memorial.

image.png

Einar Mikkelsen was a Danish polar explorer and leader of many polar expeditions, including to East Greenland. Mikkelsen led the first wave of settlers who founded the colony of Ilulissat at the mouth of Scoresby Sound. Mikkelsen considered this work his most important contribution to the development of East Greenland. He took a sincere interest in the fate of the inhabitants of the eastern coast of the island and defended their interests. The locals called him “Miki” and considered him their benefactor.

We will also be sure to visit the town's church, which is notable for its unusual combination of Lutheranism brought by the Danes and the pagan myths of the indigenous population. Lunch and dinner will be served on board the yacht.

Day 3
(22.08)

In the morning after breakfast, we weigh anchor. Ahead of us lies a long and beautiful journey into the world's largest fjord.
The branches of the main fjord branch off into a maze of channels dotted with icebergs and surrounded by high cliffs.

We sail as close to the shore as possible in search of polar bears and musk oxen. We also don't forget to arm ourselves with binoculars and look for small fountains above the water — this is how whales breathe.

Our goal for today is to reach the small Vikingbukten fjord and hide in a sheltered bay to rest from the sea crossing.

Day 4
(23.08)

In the morning, after a delicious breakfast, we will head deep into the fjord to see the Brede Glacier. From here, you can see the famous Greenland Ice Sheet, which covers 80% of the island's territory.

image.png

We will try to get as close as possible to the glacier, watch the icefall, listen to the sound of melting ice, and, if desired, swim from the sailboat in the icy meltwater.

We may even be able to see huge icebergs overturning. We will spend the night in one of the fjord's wild

bays.

Day 5
(24.08)

Today, we will visit another glacier, Sydbrae Glacier. Here, there are countless beautiful icebergs of all shapes and sizes, which you can photograph from aboard our sailing ship.

44. DJI_20250715050006_0067_D_2.JPG

Greenland's glaciers are considered to be second only to Antarctica in terms of fresh water reserves. Glaciers are the very factories that produce the icebergs we love to photograph and which, in some latitudes, still pose a danger to shipping, so the yacht is always moored in a safe place.

Also, if conditions are favorable, the crew will definitely arrange motorboat rides among the icebergs.

01. DJI_20250712043426_0297_D.JPG

Next, we will move higher up to the island of Danmarksø, which is located in the fjord. We will disembark if possible.

image.png

Polar bears are often found here. Therefore, we always exercise extreme caution when disembarking, monitor the terrain, and always stay close to an armed member of the yacht crew.

Day 6 - 7
(25 - 26.08)

We continue our journey along the Fonfjord fjord, past the enormous Milne Land island. The island consists of the oldest rocks on the planet.

55. DJI_20250711190955_0145_D.JPG

Here lies an area known as the Iceberg Graveyard. Breaking off from glaciers in deep fjords, these ice giants float with the current deep into the fjord system, where they run aground and slowly melt, creating a majestic natural phenomenon.

Depending on the tides and ice conditions, we will have the opportunity to navigate our motorboat among the huge ice floes.

Day 8 - 9
(27 - 28.08)

We continue our journey into the depths of the Vestfjord, Harefjord, and Rypefjord fjord system. We admire the high cliffs covered with snow and look for local inhabitants such as polar bears, seals, and musk oxen.
Sperm whales and even narwhals appear among the ice floes near the coast.

06. DJI_20250712201641_0173_D.JPG

The diversity of flora and fauna and the unique history of this region's formation led to the creation of Greenland National Park. It is considered a world leader not only in terms of size, but also because it is the northernmost nature reserve in the world. The unique relict tundra in northern Greenland was first declared a nature reserve in 1974, in 1977 they were granted the status of an international biosphere reserve, and over time they expanded, finally taking their current form in 1988 with an area of 972,000 square kilometers.

17. AO1I7255.JPG

We admire the glaciers, disembark, walk around, and take lots of photos.

Day 10
(29.08)

Today we are traveling along the Ofjord fjord.

image.png

Huge jagged mountains loom over our yacht. The place resembles the cliffs of Patagonia. A notable feature of this area is the Grundtvigskirken rock.   Grundtvigskirken was named in the 1930s after the famous Grundtvig Church in Copenhagen, whose tower it closely resembles.

image.png

September is approaching, so every night we go out on deck in the hope of seeing the stunning natural phenomenon of the northern lights.

image.png

In this area, it should be especially beautiful, as there is no light pollution from city lights.

Day 11 - 12
(30 - 31.08)

We drink our morning coffee, admire Greenland's untouched nature, and prepare for our next crossing. Today, we are heading to the Bear Islands.

We will definitely land on the Bear Islands with their rugged mountainous surroundings. Glaciers, floating ice, and mountains offer us breathtaking views. Wherever we go in these rarely visited places, breathtaking views await us.

We must not forget to watch out for polar bears. These predators are often found in these areas, so we stay close to an armed crew member.

Day 13
(01.09)

Today we move on to Syd cap. This is an incredibly picturesque plain, where we will definitely make a landing to admire the beauty of the Skorsby Sund fjords from the shore.

image.png

We will definitely go on a beautiful trek here to work up an appetite and return to the yacht for a delicious dinner.

Day 14
(02.09)

It's time to start our journey back to the airport, which will allow us to once again observe the beautiful nature of Greenland and take pictures of whales and icebergs.

In the evening, we gather in the saloon of our cozy yacht for a farewell dinner. We share our impressions and photos. We make plans for the future, exchange contact details, and already feel sad about our imminent parting. We spend the night at anchor in the fjord where our journey began.

Day 15
(03.09)

In the morning, enjoy a final breakfast prepared by our chef. Say goodbye to our beloved team, crew, yacht, and the incredibly beautiful and unique East Greenland.

We take our last farewell photos. We transfer our belongings to our motorboat and transport them to shore.  Transfer to the airport. Check-in at the airport, then departure to Reykjavik. Later, departure home.
